Speed Trap USA - Colorado

Occasionally, you’re gonna get a ticket, but when getting a ticket for speeding means you have no choice but to pay the ticket and allow the “powers that be” control of your life for six months, while you wait out a deferment, there’s something wrong. I vaguely remember that in the USA we are innocent until proven guilty. Not so in Pueblo, Colorado where the kangaroo monkey court system relegates traffic violatons to court clerks with little more than a paralegal certificate to determine your ‘guilty’ or ‘no-contest’ plea and leave you sucking up to the local police department for the next six months.

Ummm, what ever happened to NOT GUILTY?

I don’t often spring a leak over a ticket, but on the night I received my traffic violation certificate, there were red and blue lights flashing until you couldn’t see the road construction cones. Ahem, those orange Witch Hats require vision to avoid them and the pedestrians who bark up their trail. Let’s just blind the drivers until they can’t see and arrest them for speeding - they’ll never know, they couldn’t see their speed-o-meters for all the flashing lights!

Meanwhile Pueblo, Colorado boasts the highest revenues in the State of Colorado, while bragging about the highest non-law-abiding ratios of illegal aliens in the USA. Do those ‘victims of our neighbor, Mexico’ have driver licenses?

Trust me, there weren’t any Mexican Nationals (or to be politically correct: Illegal Aliens) in the court room. I do recognize them when I see them. The nasty little dark-skinned drug-infested gang-bangers are easily recognizable; they don’t speak English.

On top of the fact that anyone with “not Pueblo, Colorado” license plates was being pulled over that night, the court date, conveniently set for three weeks later is in the early part of the day, in the middle of the biggest tourist trap in the state. Welcome to the Pueblo River Walk on the Historic Arkansas River! Across from Union Station where State Wide Artisans Display their work to bring in even more tourists. On one particular street corner a sidewalk cafe offers specialty teas and breakfast accompaniments for those passersby who need sustenance before greeting the hangmans’ noose at the Pueblo County Courts.

Regardless of the fact that the Court Clerks will strip you dry of every drop of cash in your bank account, the shops and stores along B-Street await your eager return with promise of refreshment from the scorching Revenue Seeking Tyrants.

This is the first of many alerts to Speed Traps and REVENUE Generators across the nation. I encourage you to share your stories of speed traps, hot-to-ticket revenue building traffic cops, and other speed-demon nuggets right here in the Comments Section.

    There are signs all over I 25 telling people to move accidents from the highway, and yet the police stop people on the side of I 25 slowing up traffic to a standstill in the name of speeding? The Freeway is a parkinglot from Pueblo to the northern State Line during rush hour anyway. Whatever happened to all that concern for safety?

    WHY are the highway patrol officers allowing this to continue? Is there not a logical solution to this idiocy?

    I’m not arguing with legitimate speeding tickets, but in places where the police are stacked three deep and counting, there’s NO Legitimacy! These are nothing but SPEED TRAPS.

    Admin;

    Where were you stopped?

    I got I 25 data from CDOT and what i think happened is that i was bleeped in either the 75 MPH just into the city limits, or the following mile long 65mph zone that stops around mile 101, just before the exit to hwy 50W. I actually pulled over just inside the 55MPH zone, and was ticketed for 77 in a 55!! The (supposedly posted) speed limit of 55 and and my alleged speed are not listed on the ticket, as required by Pueblo Municipal Code. Just “20+ over speed limit.” The officer didn’t sign it, either. That’s also required by law. Imagine that if my suspicions are correct.If these allegations are true, he should be willing to say what the speed limit is, how fast i was going, and SIGN it. Yeah, I have definitely “sprung a leak ” over this one. I don’t like being cornered/basically blackmailed like this, to say the least. Obscene, stark naked $$$ Speed Trap. It just felt totally screwed and suspicius logically and legally when I discovered they had neglected to inform me of a mandatory court appearance (they legally were supposed to have me “execute” the summons, meaning sign it), and that this may well be a practiced tactic designed to intimidate people into paying up because they’re too far away to do anything else upon discovering this little detail. The clerk “graciously” offered me a deferred sentence w huge fine when I first called. I later plead “Not Guilty” with court admin and will appear at a delayed hearing early September; the court administrator allowed me to defer it that long because I am making noise. You can bet your booties I will be prepared in September, with blown up CDOT docs just for starters. I will demand to see the judge, dude. I don’t argue with legitimate speeding tix either, but you have probably gathered that this is about way more than just speeding. I would like to hire someone to go take pix of the signs on I 25 S from mile 103 to hwy 50W. Just because my CDOT doc says the signs are there doesn’t mean they are!! Please any Pueblans out there let me know if you know a high school kid w dig camera who wants to make 50 bucks. Since I have asked for CDOT docs and have openly “defied the kangaroos,” they may be on alert and could move, remove, whatever, the sign(s) out on I 25 Southbound if they are misplaced or absent.
